The boxes showed up on a Tuesday. Anyone who’s ordered a rack system before knows that feeling — the truck pulls up, and suddenly your garage or storeroom is full of flat-packed panels, a bag of hardware, and a manual you’re hoping you won’t need to read twice.

We unbox a lot of systems. But every time we get a Betta & Invert system out of its packaging, it still feels a little different. This is the system we built for the hobbyist who wants something serious without needing a warehouse to put it in — so the unboxing experience matters just as much as the final build.

First things first: lay everything out before you touch a screwdriver. Every Betta & Invert system ships with the frame panels, the connector hardware, the plumbing fittings, and the lighting rail, all separated and labeled. We always recommend doing a quick inventory check against the packing slip before assembly — it saves you a trip back to the garage halfway through.

Assembly starts with the base frame. The panels lock together without needing any tools for the initial frame — it’s a tool-free connector system by design, because we wanted this to be something a store owner (or a serious hobbyist) could put together themselves on day one, no contractor required. Once the frame is square and locked, the shelving tiers drop in one at a time, front to back, top to bottom.

The plumbing is where people sometimes slow down, and that’s fair — it’s the part that actually holds water, so it should get your attention. Each tier’s drain line routes to the central return, and every fitting is push-to-connect, so there’s no glue, no cure time, no waiting around. You can literally build this system in the morning and have water running through it by the afternoon.

Once the frame was up and the plumbing was routed, the whole system was holding water in under three hours — no glue, no downtime, no guessing.

Once the tanks are seated and the plumbing’s dry-fit tested, it’s just lighting and final tank placement. The lighting rail mounts directly to the frame, so there’s no separate hanging hardware to deal with, and it’s already wired to run off a single outlet per tier.

By the time we wrapped this particular build, we had a fully assembled, fully plumbed Betta & Invert system standing in the same spot the boxes had been sitting in that morning. That’s really the whole idea behind this system — less time staring at instructions, more time actually stocking it.
